Background
Clostridioides difficile is a leading cause of healthcare-associated diarrhoea and remains a priority organism in hospital laboratories. Infection can range from mild diarrhoea to severe, life-threatening pseudomembranous colitis. Antibiotic exposure, hospitalization and advanced age are important risk factors, although community-associated cases are increasingly recognized. The detection of toxin genes is central to molecular testing strategies. Binary toxin adds value because it is associated with hypervirulent strains such as RT027 and is not included in all molecular alternatives. Laboratories need tools that can fit screening-oriented or confirmation-oriented algorithms according to local practice.
Product information
The VIRPLEX C. difficile Kit detects C. difficile, toxin A/B genes, and binary toxin in stool samples. It is designed as a multiplex real-time PCR assay within an open workflow. Detection of the binary toxin provides additional insight into the toxigenic profile of C. difficile, supporting the identification and surveillance of strains associated with outbreaks and increased clinical and epidemiological impact.
The internal control supports result reliability by monitoring both PCR inhibition and proper amplification setup. The assay can be seamlessly integrated into existing laboratory workflows alongside immunoassays, culture methods, or other diagnostic strategies already in use.
