Background
Central nervous system infections require reliable molecular results, particularly when diagnosis supports urgent clinical decision-making. In meningitis workflows, the diversity of possible pathogens and the critical nature of cerebrospinal fluid samples make it important to control not only amplification and detection, but also extraction and overall workflow performance.
Internal controls included in molecular assays are useful for monitoring individual reactions, but they may not provide independent verification of every analytical step. Laboratories running molecular meningitis panels therefore need standardized, representative external controls capable of verifying the process from sample handling through nucleic acid extraction, amplification, and detection.
Product features
AMPLIRUN® TOTAL Meningitis Control Panel is an external run control panel designed to mimic human cerebrospinal fluid and contains inactivated microorganisms relevant to central nervous system infections. It is intended for validation, verification, and quality control in nucleic acid-based assays.
The panel includes 10 lyophilized vials organized into two members: one vial containing bacterial and fungal targets, and one vial containing viral targets.
- Vial 1 includes Haemophilus influenzae, Listeria monocytogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, E. coli K1, Neisseria meningitidis, Streptococcus agalactiae, and Cryptococcus neoformans.
- Vial 2 includes Enterovirus 71, Herpes simplex virus 1, Herpes simplex virus 2, HHV-6, Varicella zoster virus, Parechovirus 1, and Cytomegalovirus.
Its lyophilized monodose format and sample-like matrix support monitoring of the complete workflow, including extraction, amplification, and detection. The product is quantified by real-time PCR, contains non-infectious inactivated microorganisms, and has been successfully evaluated for use with the BIOFIRE® FILMARRAY® 2.0 System.
