Background

Respiratory infections generate a high seasonal workload for clinical laboratories. WHO estimates around 1 billion seasonal influenza cases every year, including 3–5 million severe cases.Influenza, RSV and SARS-CoV-2 may circulate simultaneously and produce overlapping respiratory symptoms. This makes differential molecular testing particularly useful during winter peaks and outbreak periods. Influenza A subtyping can add value for surveillance, strain characterization and epidemiological monitoring. Bordetella testing remains relevant in bacterial respiratory workflows, especially when prolonged cough overlaps with viral respiratory disease. 
Laboratories need flexible assays that can adapt to seasonality, workload and the level of information required for each sample.

Product Information

The VIRPLEX respiratory portfolio includes solutions for SARS-CoV-2, influenza, RSV, Influenza A subtyping, and Bordetella detection.

The SARS-CoV-2/Flu A/Flu B/RSV assay supports differential diagnosis during the respiratory season through a single test. The Flu A Subtyping assay provides specific information on A(H1N1)pdm09, A(H3N2), and H5 targets, supporting epidemiological surveillance. The Bordetella assay detects B. pertussis, B. parapertussis, and Bordetella spp., addressing bacterial respiratory infection workflows.

All kits include internal controls to help monitor sample quality, PCR inhibition, and proper amplification setup. The portfolio supports laboratories that need to combine seasonal respiratory testing with more targeted respiratory investigation.
