Background

Mycobacterial workflows are complex because culture can take days or weeks and species-level information may arrive late. WHO reported approximately 8.2 million people newly diagnosed with TB in 2023, the highest number recorded since global TB monitoring began. At the same time, non-tuberculous mycobacteria are increasingly relevant, particularly in high-income and low-to-medium TB prevalence settings. NTM pulmonary disease is especially important in patients with chronic lung disease, immunosuppression and cystic fibrosis. Early differentiation between MTB complex and NTM can change isolation measures, follow-up testing and clinical management. Within NTM, MAC and M. abscessus complex are particularly relevant because they are frequent and may require different therapeutic approaches. Laboratories need faster tools to reduce uncertainty before culture and complete species identification are available.

Product information

  • MYCOBACTERIUM REALTIME PCR KIT differentiates MTB complex, Mycobacterium avium complex, M. abscessus complex and Mycobacterium spp. in the same workflow. This is especially useful when the laboratory needs more information than a simple MTB-positive or MTB-negative result. The ability to identify MAC and M. abscessus complex at an early stage supports more actionable interpretation in respiratory samples.
  • MTBC SPECIES REALTIME PCR KIT complements the line with species-level identification within the M. tuberculosis complex. Together, both kits help organize mycobacterial testing from initial differentiation to more specific MTBC characterization.

The line is positioned for reference laboratories, respiratory units, cystic fibrosis centres and laboratories managing complex mycobacterial requests. It supports a faster and more informative workflow for one of the most technically demanding areas of infectious disease testing.
