Background

Sexually transmitted infections represent a growing public health challenge due to their high incidence, frequent asymptomatic presentation, possible co-infections, and increasing antimicrobial resistance. Many patients may present with non-specific symptoms or no symptoms at all, making clinical assessment alone insufficient and potentially delaying appropriate treatment.

A syndromic molecular approach enables the simultaneous detection of multiple pathogens associated with the same clinical condition, supporting differential diagnosis and faster decision-making. In STI workflows, same-day results can help reduce repeat visits, minimize loss to follow-up, and support more targeted treatment.

Product information

VIRPLEX MiniLab is a sample-to-result molecular solution based on real-time PCR, designed to simplify syndromic STI testing. Its closed-loop workflow, minimal manipulation, and full traceability help reduce contamination risk and streamline laboratory operations.

The STD VIRPLEX MiniLab Panel detects relevant STI pathogens:

  • Chlamydia trachomatis
  • C. trachomatis serovar L/LGV
  • Neisseria gonorrhoeae
  • Trichomonas vaginalis
  • Mycoplasma genitalium and macrolide resistance-associated mutations (A2058 and A2059)
  • Ureaplasma urealyticum
  • Ureaplasma parvum
  • Mycoplasma hominis
  • Herpes Simplex Virus 1 and 2
  • Haemophilus ducreyi
  • Treponema pallidum
  • mpox virus.

The panel also includes a sample extraction control and internal controls.

The solution is validated for different specimen types, including vaginal/endocervical, urethral, rectal, pharyngeal swabs, urine, and ulcer samples.
